A Beautiful Anarchy:
When the Life Creative Becomes the Life Created
By David du Chemin
“Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself,”
- George Bernard Shaw
In A Beautiful Anarchy, duChemin provides a frank and honest conversation about the creative process and challenges the reader to consider what it really means to be an artist. This book extends beyond photography to the foundation of creativity and its place in a complete and rich life. Sometimes, the discussion is difficult, but the ideas are all necessary for every artist to consider.
Being an artist is not easy. At times you feel like you have it all figured out, and other times you are crippled with self-doubt. I was struck by this quote in the Foreward:
“When was the last time you failed?” This is a frequent question asked of me. I don’t know if my answer is jacked up on hubris … but I do know it’s honest- “Every day.” – James Victore.
Failing is a normal part of the creative process. As duChemin says, the most important thing is to just keep trying to find ways to lead a more creative life.
A Beautiful Anarchy is a thought-provoking book that would benefit any artist–and really anyone who wants to bring more creativity into their life.
